He was previously convicted of cybercrimes.

The Prosecutor's Office for the Northern District of California has recommended to the US federal court to sentence Russian Yevgeny Nikulin, who was previously convicted of cybercrimes, to 12 years in prison. The relevant documents were received in the electronic database of the court.

According to the prosecutor's office, the Russian citizen should be sentenced to "imprisonment for 145 months," and also to recover from him the damage that he inflicted on some American companies, the petition says.

Nikulin's lawyers went to court with a different proposal. The Russian's defenders recommended that he be sentenced to the term that he had already served under arrest. Thus, he can be released after the announcement of the verdict and deported to Russia. The lawyers' petition is also accompanied by letters from Nikulin's relatives, who said that they were looking forward to the return of their loved one.

Recall that 30-year-old Nikulin is accused of hacking LinkedIn, Dropbox and Formspring and stealing data from more than 100 million users. He was arrested in October 2016 in the Czech Republic, and then extradited to the United States.
