During the police operation, law enforcement officers managed to partially disrupt the work of the most popular trading platform, where cybercriminals sell and buy stolen data. This is evidenced by the reports of resource administrators and sources who had access to it, according to the information security company Digital Shadows.
On Thursday, December 17, a notice appeared on the forum of the Joker's Stash trading platform for users that "these nits have arrested an external proxy server" connected to one of the sections of the site. The other sections of Joker's Stash seem to be working normally.
As explained by representatives of Interpol, the shutdown of one of the sections of the site is associated with the current coordinated police operation, the details of which are too early to disclose.
As a result of the operation, the domain was disabled .bazar, which is part of the growing popularity of blockchain-based DNS technology (Blockchain DNS). The DNS protocol acts as a kind of Internet phone book that allows users to enter site names (for example, Google.com) to access a web address, which is actually a long string of numbers. Blockchain DNS tools use a similar approach, but help the site owner avoid crashes by using a decentralized web service. In other words, if a portion of the Blockchain DNS is disabled, the rest of the site will continue to work.
Judging by the correspondence on the Joker's Stash forum, at first users decided that the entire site went offline, but as it turned out later, only one domain was disabled. According to the administrator of the trading platform, the arrested server did not store any data about buyers and sellers, or about goods.
