Canadian manufacturer of IoT devices Sierra Wireless reported that this week its IT systems were attacked by ransomware.
Sierra Wireless specializes in the production of wireless communication equipment. Sierra Wireless products are used worldwide in corporate and industrial networks, including in commercial enterprises, government organizations, as well as in energy, transportation and other companies.
Due to the cyberattack, production processes have stopped at the enterprises, but the manufacturer hopes to resume production "soon". The site and Sierra Wireless's internal operations also experienced disruptions. However, according to the company, the incident affected only its own systems, as it "maintains a clear distinction between its internal IT systems and customer-oriented products and services."
"Upon learning of the attack, the company's IT department and operations department immediately took action to counter the attack in accordance with established cybersecurity procedures and policies developed in collaboration with third-party consultants.
Specialists of these departments reported that with the help of third-party consultants, they successfully responded to the attack, and are currently working on returning Sierra Wireless's internal IT systems to operational mode," the company said in a press release.
