The company assured that it has blocked the hacker and is taking additional measures.

The social network Clubhouse announced the leak of conversations of some users who were in a closed room. The reason for this was a hacker attack that was launched on February 20.

An unknown user was able to circumvent the security restrictions of the social network and transfer users ' audio files to a third-party website on the Internet, explained Clubhouse spokeswoman Rima Banasi. Details of the hack are not reported, but the company announced that the user has already been blocked and the necessary measures have been taken to protect the data. At the same time, experts say that it is impossible to ensure complete confidentiality of information.

"Clubhouse can't make any promises about the privacy of conversations held anywhere in the world," commented Alex Stamos, director of the Stanford Internet Observatory cybersecurity company and former head of Facebook security.

He noted that his company could not identify the identity of the hackers and the origin of the attack — it is possible that the attacker came up with a way to remotely share with the whole world his login from the social network Clubhouse.

Clubhouse's popularity soared in February. The startup allows speakers to communicate within " rooms "that can be joined by listeners — they can" raise their hand " to ask a question with the approval of the discussion moderators. The company recently raised $100 million in investment at a valuation of about $1 billion. The audience of the service in Russia for the week from February 10 to 16 increased almost 18 times, the AppAnnie service calculated.
