The attackers also gained access to one of the customer service portals and stole confidential information.

The French firm Stormshield, which is a major provider of information security services and network security devices for the French government, reported that attackers gained access to one of the customer support portals and stole confidential information.

According to the company, the cybercriminals also managed to steal part of the source code of the Stormshield Network Security (SNS) firewall, a product certified for use in confidential government networks in France.

The company is currently investigating the incident together with the French cybersecurity agency ANSSI (Agence Nationale de la Sécurité des Systèmes d'information) and assessing the impact of the cyberattack on state systems.

"An in-depth analysis conducted with the support of the relevant authorities has not revealed any evidence of illegal code changes, nor has any of Stormshield's working products been compromised," Stormshield said.

As a result of the incident, the French firm decided to replace the digital certificates that it had previously used to sign SNS software updates. The information security company also reset passwords for its technical support portal, which was hacked by attackers, and the portal of the Stormshield Institute, used for customer training courses. The resource was not compromised, but Stormshield decided to reset the passwords as a preventive measure.
