Operation Enemies of the People began after the US presidential election and resumed during the storming of the Capitol.
The FBI reported on a malicious cyber operation called Enemies of the People ("Enemies of the People"), conducted by Iranian hackers against the US federal government, state governments and the civilian population.
The FBI and the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency) issued the first warning about the cyber operation of Enemies of the People in December 2020. Then it was reported that the main site of cybercriminals (enemiesofthepeople.org) was disabled. However, according to the new notice, the campaign has resumed again, and the attackers have found new ways to spread their messages.
"Iranian cybercriminals tried to intimidate some officials with direct threats, including images of text messages between participants (Enemies of the People – ed.) and an unidentified person in the United States, allegedly supporting the operation," the notice says.
The Iran-linked cybercrime group sends threatening emails and text messages to US citizens, which may also contain personal information and photos. In addition, Enemies of the People uses social media and other platforms to spread messages about the operation.
