The site's operator told a Russian-language cybercrime forum that it was "time for Joker's Stash to go away forever."

The administration of the largest trading platform in the darknet, Joker's Stash, specializing in the sale of compromised payment data, announced its intention to wind down its operations on February 15, 2021. The site's operator, someone under the pseudonym JokerStash, told a Russian-language cybercrime forum that "it's time for us to leave forever" and "we will never open again."

"The Joker is retiring on a well-deserved pension. Joker's Stash closes. When we opened a few years ago, no one knew us. Today, we are one of the largest map/dump markets, " the report says.

The reason for the closure of the site is not reported, but it may be an operation conducted by law enforcement agencies in relation to Joker's Stash. For example, in December last year, it was reported that the FBI managed to seize the external proxy server of the site, as a result of which one of its sections stopped working. Since the seized server was part of the blockchain-based DNS technology (Blockchain DNS), its removal led to the shutdown of not the entire site, but only part of it.

Among other things, recently the volume of data published on Joker's Stash has significantly decreased, and users began to complain about their poor quality. In October 2020, the site was also affected by the long absence of its operator, who was hospitalized with COVID-19.

According to experts from Gemini Advisory, the reason for the closure of the trading platform could also be the rapid growth of the bitcoin exchange rate. Last week, the value of one bitcoin reached a record high of $40 thousand, which is why the total value of the cryptocurrency market for the first time in history exceeded $1 trillion. As experts noted, Joker's Stash is one of the" pioneers " of bitcoin, and all operations on the site are carried out using the exclusive cryptocurrency.

"This criminal is already one of the richest cybercriminals, and the jump in the rate could further increase his fortune, bringing enough money to retire," Gemini Advisory reported.

"We also want to wish all young and mature cyber gangsters not to lose themselves in the pursuit of easy money. Remember that even all the money in the world can't make you happy, and that the most valuable things in this life are free, " JokerStash summed up his farewell message.
