The update of the "black list" to which several Russians have been added is intended to protect the upcoming US presidential elections from foreign interference and "send a signal to Moscow" that such attempts will be prosecuted, the US Treasury said in a statement.

Anton Andreev, Darya Dmitrievna Aslanova, Artem Mikhailovich Lifshits and Andriy Leonidovich Derkach, a citizen of Ukraine, are included in the list of people suspected by the United States of involvement in cybercrimes. All three Russians are residents of St. Petersburg, a citizen of Ukraine is from Kiev. Non-factional deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Andriy Derkach previously published recordings of conversations in which voices similar to the voices of former US Vice President Joseph Biden and ex-President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko are heard.

"The US will continue to use all the tools at its disposal to counter Russian disinformation campaigns and preserve the integrity of our electoral system," said US Treasury Chief Steven Mnuchin, quoted in the post.

In 2018, the US Department of Justice accused Mr. Prigozhin and the Internet Research Agency of interfering in the 2016 US presidential election. Sanctions were imposed against him. In the summer of 2020, the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions against individuals and companies that, according to the US authorities, are associated with a Russian entrepreneur.
